COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course will study human societies and cultures, their development and their literature. Topics covered: adaptation and diversity, scientific method, origins of modern humans paying close attention to the "race" concept, genetics, disparities in different population. Various literature will be discussed paying closed attention to historical, cultural significance as it relates to societal impact on nature and global economy.

OBJECTIVES
By the end of this course
Understand the processes that lead to human biological variation
Understand the basic principles of genetics
Know the basic theories and evidence from the evolution of the human species
Understand what are environmental influences that lead to adaptive traits which characterize the human species
Obtain awareness of global biological influences on the planet
Differentiate between biological and cultural notions of race
